COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ATROPINE EFFICACIES ON ORGANOPHOSPHOROUS OR CARBAMATE POISONINGS


Abstract
Study objective:
@EN This study compared analysis of atropine efficacies on organophosphorous or carbamate poisoning after intravenous atropine administration.
@ES Design:
@EN Retropsective, blinded, clinical study conducted from January 1990 to December 1993.
@ES Setting:
@EN The Wonkwang university hospital emergency department.
@ES Participants:
@EN Two hundred forty-three patient who presented with organophosphorous or can-bamate intoxication.
@ES Interventions:
@EN Eligible subjects received 8.0mg(16ml)/1 hour by syringe pump until full atropinization(eg., full dilatation of pupil 160 times/min> heart rate, atropine psychosis, decreased secretion or salivation), and then atropine was done.
@ES Measurements & main results:
@EN Forty-eight organophosphorous intoxication patients and twenty-one carbamate intoxiciation patients completed the study because on hundred seventy-four patients were unknown with the amount of organophosphorous or carbamate ingestion or done
not
followed the prescribed atropinization schedule. The followings are the results.
(1) The amounts of organophosphorous or carbamate ingestion were significantly correlated with the total amount of atropine(organophosphorous P : 0.0008, carbamate P:0.0001), the amount of full atropinization (organophosporous P:0.0011,
carbamate
P:0.0001).
(2) The small amount of insecticide ingestion were needed more intravenous atropine administratio to carbamate intoxicationthan organophosphorous intoxication and the large amount of insecticide ingestion were needed more intravenous atropine
administration to organophosphorous intoxication than carbamate intoxication.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN The organophosphorous or carbamate detoxification were significantly correlated with the total amount of atropine and the amount of full atropinization. The organophosphorous intoxication is less efficacy and required more atropine
administration
amount to comparison with carbamate for the detoxification of the large amount.
